Yagya is outer form of worship in which offerings are made to different deities in a prescribed and systematic manner by qualified priests to supplicate them, so that they would assist the worshipper in achieving certain results in life. yagya is a way to pray to God and send our messages to God. In this rituals people come together at any religious place or temple and sage & saints sits around the fire and start chanting Sanskrit "Mantra" which is pray to God for raining and end the dry spell. yagya can keep on going for many days.
In such rituals every person take participate where priests are chanting 'mantras' and other people help them by providing fuel, woods,water and other necessary thing to them. people take care of the thing that fire should not get extinguish until the qualified priest wants.
People recognise that after these rituals God will be happy and rain will come soon. many of the time it works but people themselves don't know the science behind it.

To know the scientific reason first you need to know how rain forms. From earth water vaporise from all the sources of water and it travel a long distance in form of vapour. up above in sky the temperature fall down to 0 degree Celsius and as we know water comes in solid state at 0 degree Celsius. these water vapour comes in solid state and make ice crystals and became heavy and start falling due to gravity. when it start coming to earth temperature rises and ice crystal convert into water again and falls down in form of rain.
But there is a issue which is left that water vapours need some impurity to form ice. vapour cannot convert into ice itself. vapour molecule need a base to form into a crystal and these impurity provide a base to form a crystal. these impurity comes from land in form of soil, from fire in the forest from meteoroids from space. so these impurities play a crucial role in raining.
